For guests: booking, door code, My places

This page is for guests of a place that is managed with LinArt: you send a request through the host's public page, pay the host directly, get a guest link with door code, Wi-Fi and house rules, and find all your stays under My places (♡) in the menu. A free LinArt account is enough; you do not need an app.

Quick start: everything at a glance

Public place pages and requests go online only after the legal review — currently only via a link from the host. The sections below describe both.

Overview

A guest's journey has four stops:

  1. Request — on the place's page (/o/…) choose your dates, see the total price, Send a non-binding request. The host answers within 24 hours.
  2. Acceptance, reservation and payment — once the host accepts, the dates are reserved for you; you pay through the host's link (Reserved — pay now). LinArt does not take any money.
  3. Guest link and door code — the host sends you a link (/s#…). It shows arrival, address, house rules, Wi-Fi and, from 24 hours before arrival, your door code. The link works without an account.
  4. Stay and departure — if you have trouble at the door, 🆘 I can't get in; when you leave, 🧳 I have left. The code stops working after that.
Good to know
  • Your contract is with the host only. Every place page says: “This page is technically provided by LinArt. The contract is with the host only.”
  • There is no payment through LinArt and no “book with obligation to pay” button — you always book and pay with the host.
  • The door code is checked by the lock itself. Once it is on the lock, it works even if the internet at the place goes down.

Step by step: requesting a stay

The host gives you the link to their page (https://…/o/<name>). You can read the page without an account; to send a request you need a LinArt account (free). Currently only via a link from the host: public pages and requests go online only after the legal review; until then you get your guest link directly from the host (Your door code).

What the page shows

Requesting nights (holiday flat, house, room, camper van, boat)

  1. In the calendar, tap the arrival day (only green days can be chosen). The page says: “Choose arrival and departure in the calendar.” → after the first tap: “Now choose the departure.”
  2. Tap the departure day. All nights in between must be free; the departure day may be the first booked day.
  3. Below that, a box appears with “Total for {n} nights: {amount} incl. final cleaning” and the breakdown “{n} nights {amount} + final cleaning {amount}”. The amount comes from the server and takes seasonal prices into account. If the stay is too short: “Please choose at least {n} nights.”
  4. Choose the number of Guests (up to the place's maximum) and optionally write a “Message to the host (optional)”.
  5. Read the note: “Non-binding request. Your name and e-mail go to the host, who answers within 24 hours. You then book and pay directly with the host — not via LinArt.”
  6. Tap Send a non-binding request. On success: “Request sent. You will get an e-mail when the host answers (also under "My places").”

A request can cover at most 60 nights; for more: “At most 60 nights per request — for longer stays contact the host directly.”

Requesting hours (sauna)

  1. Under “Free dates”, choose the date in the Day field (tomorrow is preset; the past is locked).
  2. The day's time slots appear as buttons “HH:MM–HH:MM”. Crossed-out slots are booked. Slots that start in less than 2 hours can no longer be chosen. If nothing is free: “Nothing free on that day.”
  3. “Pick a time span (tap the first and the last slot).” — the first tap picks one slot; a tap on a later slot extends the selection if everything in between is free. Any other tap starts again.
  4. Below: date and time span, “Total for {n} h: {amount} incl. final cleaning” (hours × hourly price + final cleaning).
  5. Guests, message, Send a non-binding request — as for nights. If the time span has been taken in the meantime: “This time span is no longer free.”

Not signed in: “Sign in and ask”

If you are not signed in, the button says Sign in and ask. Your selection (dates, guests, message) is stored temporarily in the browser, you go to the sign-in page and, after signing in or registering, back to the place's page — with your selection restored. Then tap Send a non-binding request once more. The temporary storage applies only to this browser window.

What happens after sending

After acceptance: reservation & payment

Reserved — pay now

If the host accepts, you get an e-mail “Request accepted: {place}” and a push notification. Normally the host reserves the dates for you right away:

  1. The e-mail says: “The dates are reserved for you. Please pay the host now: {link}. Once the payment is in, the host sends you the guest card with address, Wi-Fi and door code.” It also shows the “Total as shown on the page” and, if any, a message from the host.
  2. Under My places › “My requests” the request shows as “accepted” with the button Reserved — pay now {amount} ↗ and the deadline “by {time}”.
  3. The button opens the host's own payment link (e.g. PayPal.me or a Stripe payment link, often with the amount pre-filled) or their booking page. You pay there — not at LinArt.
  4. The host confirms the payment in LinArt. Only then is your door code written to the lock and you get the guest link. “My requests” shows “✓ paid”.

The payment deadline is 48 hours — or less if the arrival is sooner (then until 2 hours before arrival, never shorter than 2 hours). If the host accepted without reserving right away, the button reads Book now with the host ↗ and the e-mail says: “Please book now directly with the host.”

After an acceptance with reservation, the stay also appears under “Current and upcoming” in My places.

Status in “My requests”

✓ paidThe host has confirmed your payment.
reservation expiredNot paid in time; the dates are free again (see below).
declinedThe host declined (e-mail “Request declined: …”, possibly with a message).

withdrawnYou withdrew the request yourself.

Each row shows the dates (for hourly places e.g. “Fri 12/10 14:00–16:00”), “{n} guests”, a reply from the host (“💬 …”) and the link Page ↗ to the place. Requests from the last 90 days are listed.

Withdrawing a request

Only an open request (“waiting for an answer”) can be taken back with Withdraw. You cancel a reservation that has already been accepted with the host (phone, e-mail) — LinArt has no button for that; if you simply do not pay, the reservation lapses after the deadline.

Your door code

The host sends you a link of the form https://…/s#… — by e-mail, WhatsApp or in the booking platform's chat. The standard message reads: “Hello! We look forward to your stay at "{place}". Everything for your arrival (address, house rules, Wi-Fi and your door code from 24 hours before arrival) is here: {link} · Check-in from {a}, check-out by {b}. Safe travels!”

First accept the house rules

If the host has added house rules, the box “🔑 Your door code” first shows: “Please accept the house rules first — then you will see your door code here.” Read the “House rules” section and tap ✓ I have read and accept the house rules. The confirmation is saved once. Without house rules this step is skipped.

When the code appears

“The code is being sent to the lock.”

The code is normally written to every lock of the place 48 hours before arrival and checked there. If you see the yellow note “The code is being sent to the lock.” below your code, it has not reached all locks yet (e.g. the gateway is offline). The system keeps trying automatically; if the code is still not on the lock 2 hours before arrival, the host is alerted. If you are standing at the door by then, use 🆘 I can't get in.

Entering the code

Below the code you find the instructions: “Type the code on the keypad and confirm with ✓ (some locks: touch the keypad first).” The code usually has 6 digits and works for all doors of your place (flat door, front door, shared doors). Details about the locks: Türen & Codes (DE).

What else is on the card

My places & stay card

My places (♡) is your personal list across all hosts: “Your stays with all hosts and saved places”. It does not depend on which home is selected at the top of the menu. The menu item appears as soon as you have saved at least one stay, saved a place or sent a request in the last 90 days; before that you reach the page through the link in the e-mails (/app/places). Without entries it says: “No stays yet. Open your accommodation link and tap "Save in LinArt".”

Saving a stay to your account (“Save in LinArt”)

  1. Open your guest link. If you are signed in to LinArt, you see ♡ Save in LinArt at the bottom; otherwise the note “With a free LinArt account you will find this stay later under "My places".” with Sign in — after signing in you land on the card again.
  2. After the tap: “♡ Saved — under "My places" in LinArt”. The stay now belongs to your account.
  3. Fellow travellers who open the same link and save it also get it in their account (up to 10 people per stay).

A stay from an accepted request with reservation is in your account automatically — no need to save it.

Under “Current and upcoming” you find every upcoming or current stay (current: “● now”). 🔑 Open stay unfolds the card — with the same content as the guest link: “🔑 Door code” (or “The door code appears from {t}.” / “Please accept the house rules first.” with ✓ I have read and accept the house rules), “House rules”, “Arrival info”, “📶 Wi-Fi”, 🆘 I can't get in, 🧳 I have left and “Host” (phone). Close folds it up. The address (“📍”) appears only from 7 days before arrival.

The card can be opened as soon as the host has created the guest link for the booking. Before that, 🔑 Open stay answers with the note “The host has not released your access yet. Your stay card appears here as soon as your guest link is created.”; if something goes wrong, “The stay could not be opened right now. Please try again later.”

Saving a place and seeing free dates

After a stay you can keep the place permanently under “Saved places” with ♡ Save (in the stay's row, also under “Past stays”) — if the host allows it. There you see:

Saving is possible if the place is active, you had a stay there and the host allows it (on by default for rental and business plans, off by default for private households). If you were there only through Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo, you see only the links back to the platform — no price and no request button.

At the bottom of the page: “Hosts see only how many people saved their place — not who.”

Notification of new free dates

Each saved place has the option “🔔 E-mail me when new dates are free (at most once a week)”. When it is ticked, you get an e-mail “New free dates: {place}” when dates become free that were still booked when you saved the place — at most one per week and place. To unsubscribe: “turn off the bell in "My places"” (untick the box). If the host later no longer allows saving, the e-mails stop by themselves.

Departure

“I have left”

  1. On the stay card (guest link or My places) tap 🧳 I have left. The button is visible from 2 hours before arrival until 30 minutes after the departure time.
  2. Question: “Have you left the accommodation? Your door code will stop working.” — on the guest link and in My places alike, as a confirmation sheet with Cancel and 🧳 I have left.
  3. Confirmation: “Thank you! Your code is deactivated and the heating goes to eco. Safe travels home!”

What follows: your code is removed from the locks, the place's heating (if controlled) goes to eco mode, the cleaning can start right away and the host is notified that you have left. This step cannot be undone — tap only when you are really outside and have not forgotten anything. Without this step the code ends automatically 30 minutes after check-out.

After the departure time or after “I have left” the card only shows: “Your stay has ended. Thank you for visiting!” 24 hours after the departure time the link expires. In My places the stay moves to “Past stays” — ♡ Save is still possible there.

Help when the door does not open

“I can't get in”

  1. On the stay card, tap 🆘 I can't get in.
  2. Optionally describe it: “What happened? (optional)” — e.g. “keypad does not react” or “code is rejected”.
  3. Notify the host. Confirmation: “The host has been notified. Please keep your phone at hand.”

The host and their co-admins immediately get a push notification and an e-mail that a guest needs help, with your message and the state of the code (whether it is on all locks according to the last check). They are asked to call you and, in an emergency, to tell you about the key safe or mechanical key. You can send another alert after 5 minutes at the earliest.

Calling the host directly

Under “Help / host” (guest link) or “Host” (My places) you find the phone number, tappable. For a booking through a platform, its chat also works.

Quick checks first

What happens if …

… the host does not answer within 24 hours?

The request lapses automatically (status “no answer”). You can send a new request at any time or book the place through one of the links under “Also bookable on”.

… the host declines?

You get the e-mail “Request declined: {place}” (possibly with a message); “My requests” shows “declined”. There are no costs.

… I do not pay in time?

One day after the payment deadline the reservation is released: the dates are free again, you get an e-mail „Reservierung abgelaufen: {place}“ (reservation expired; this e-mail is currently sent in German: your reservation … was not paid and has expired, you can send a new request at any time), and “My requests” shows “reservation expired”. The host is informed as well.

… the host cancels the booking?

The door code is removed from the locks. The guest link shows “This booking was cancelled.”, and in My places the stay appears under “Past stays” with “· cancelled”. Refunds are up to the host under their own terms — LinArt holds no money. A booking from a platform is cancelled there by the host; LinArt takes over the change.

… the chosen days have been taken in the meantime?

When you send, you see “These days are no longer free.” (for hourly places “This time span is no longer free.”). The page's calendar is cached for up to 15 minutes; reload the page and choose again.

… I already have a request running?

“You already have an open request here.” — only one open request per place. “You already have 3 open requests.” — at most three in total; withdraw one or wait for the answer.

… I booked this place before through Airbnb, Booking.com or Vrbo?

Then you see: “You stayed here through a booking platform — please book there again:” with the links to the platform. A direct request is not possible in that case (platform rules). If you have also booked there directly before, you may send a request.

… the host does not accept requests?

Then there is no request box after you choose dates; the links under “Also bookable on” remain. If you get “That did not work.” when sending, the host has just switched requests off or the page is no longer public.

“This link is not valid.”: the link was copied incompletely (the part after # is missing) or the host has renewed it — ask for the current link. “This link has expired.”: more than 24 hours after the departure time. If the card was loaded very often in a short time (more than 120 times in 10 minutes), it says “Too many requests in a short time. Please wait a few minutes and open the link again.”

Ask the host to renew the link. The old one becomes invalid immediately; the door code itself stays — anyone who has seen it knows it. If in doubt, the host can adjust the booking.

… the place's page shows “This page does not exist (any more).”?

The host has taken the page offline, it is incomplete (e.g. the registration number is missing) or the place is paused. Ask the host for the current link.

… the internet at the place goes down?

The code is stored in the lock and checked there — it works without internet. Only writing new codes and removing old ones need the connection; the system catches up on that. Save the code before you arrive (screenshot or note) in case you have no signal on the way.

You save a placeonly the number of people who saved the place — not whountil you choose “Remove” or delete your account
You send a requestyour account name, your e-mail, dates, number of guests, message (only the host and co-admins; cleaning staff and helpers see no requests)requests are deleted after 180 days
You have a bookingname and e-mail (stored encrypted), stay times, whether you have accepted the house rules, code statuse-mail and phone are deleted 30 days after departure, only the first name remains; the guest link is deleted 30 days after it expires

Cleaning staffonly the place, time window, next arrival and number of guests — no names, no contact details—

If you delete your LinArt account, your saved places and requests are deleted and the link to past stays is removed; the booking itself stays as the host's record (the host is responsible for it, LinArt processes it on the host's behalf). At the bottom of the stay card and the place's page you find “Impressum” and “Datenschutz”.

How long the door log is kept is decided by the host.

As a guest you do not need a plan. A free LinArt account is enough; the host's plan decides what they can offer you.

Frequently asked questions

When do I get the door code?

On the stay card from 24 hours before arrival — after you have accepted the house rules. Before that it says “Your door code appears here from {time}.” For a direct booking from a request, only after the host has confirmed your payment and sent you the guest link.

My code does not work. What should I do?

Check the time window (from check-in), the note “The code is being sent to the lock.”, the right door and how you enter it (touch the keypad, code, ✓). Then tap 🆘 I can't get in straight away and call the host — they see the code status and know the fallback (key safe, mechanical key). More: Help when the door does not open.

Do I need a LinArt account?

Not for the guest link and the door code. For requests, “My places” and saving places, yes — it is free.

Do I need an app to open the door?

No. You open with the code on the keypad. The stay card is a web page in your browser.

Where and how do I pay?

With the host, through their payment or booking link (Reserved — pay now). LinArt takes no money and issues no invoice. Questions about the amount, refunds or invoices are for the host.

How do I cancel?

An open request with Withdraw. A reserved booking that has not been paid lapses by itself after the payment deadline. A paid booking you cancel with the host (phone, e-mail) under their terms.

Ask the host to send it again. If you saved the stay or booked through a request, open it under My places › 🔑 Open stay without the link.

We are travelling together — does everyone get a code?

There is one code per booking for all travellers. Everyone can open the guest link and save it to their own account with ♡ Save in LinArt (up to 10 people).

I don't see any Wi-Fi on the card.

Wi-Fi appears in the same time window as the code (from 24 hours before arrival, after the house rules) and only if the host has added it.

Why is there no address in “My places”?

There the address is shown only from 7 days before arrival and during the stay. On the guest link it is always shown.

Why don't I see the door in the dashboard any more?

Shared doors (role “Guest”) disappear automatically when the share ends. The stay remains under My places › “Past stays”.

I no longer want e-mails about free dates.

Under My places › “Saved places”, untick “🔔 E-mail me when new dates are free” — or use Remove.

Is the price in the request binding?

The request is non-binding. The “Total as shown on the page” (nights or hours plus final cleaning) is recorded with the request and appears in the acceptance e-mail; it becomes binding with your booking and payment with the host.

The tablet in the flat — what does it do?

Some hosts put a tablet in the place. Without any login it shows “Welcome, {first name}!”, the departure day and time, the Wi-Fi with a QR code to connect, the house rules, arrival info, the host's phone number (Call), a clock and — if there is a sensor — the room climate (temperature, humidity, CO₂ with a “please air the room” hint). Language switchable DE / EN / RU. The tablet opens no door and never shows your door code, nor any guest e-mail addresses or phone numbers — your code is only on your stay card. Between two stays it shows only “Next arrival: {date}”.
